I'm not shooting somebody because my mother tells me to. Again.
- Sergeant Bosco

Sergeant Bosco is a police sergeant who has made several appearances in the show. Bosco recurs throughout the series as the main face of the police in town, and often ends up working with the Belcher Family to solve mysteries and crimes. He makes his first appearance in "Bob Day Afternoon."

He is voiced by Gary Cole.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Sergeant. Bosco has black hair with grey sideburns; he wears a shoulder holster used to conceal his gun while wearing his brown jacket.

When he was younger, his sideburns were likely black like the rest of his hair. "Sliding Bobs" supports this when a younger version of him appears in Gene Belcher's story with black sideburns.

Personality[]

Bosco overall showcases a lack of competence, apathy, and unprofessionalism in his police work. The first evidence of this appears in his first appearance when Bosco antagonizes a bank robber in an active hostage situation at First Oceanside Savings Bank and argues with children (Tina, Gene, and Louise Belcher) during it. During the hostage situation, Bosco even forgets he ordered tear gas placed in the bank, which caused the other cops in the bank to gas themselves accidentally. Other examples are in "Bobby Driver," when Bosco implies that he once shot someone on his mother's order (though the officer did decide not to do so again), or in "World Wharf II: The Wharfening," when he disregards the Belcher's concern of Bob's whereabouts. He also shows that he's lazy in "I Get Psy-chic Out of You" when he hires Linda Belcher after hearing about her supposed "psychic powers" to help him with the Little Boy Bandit case and in "The Bleakening," when he spends time doing other things before heading to a scene of a reported robbery and is too lazy to put up more push pins for a robbery map.

Despite not being that great at his job, he is proud of being a cop. When Olsen Benner interviews him in "I Get Psy-chic Out of You" after he catches the Little Boy Bandit, he doesn't credit Bob or Linda for helping him with the case, but both his guns.

Relationships[]

Family[]

His Kids[]

He mentions his kids in "My Fuzzy Valentine." They likely estranged him since in the same episode, he says they would make him "feel like a loser" if he called them.

Lillian Bosco[]

In "Secret Admiral-irer," Bosco greets his mother as he arrives to Elegant Doily Retirement Home after responding by a call by the Tina, Gene, and Louise Belcher. His mother doesn't actually appear until Season 9, where she is the nemesis of Edith Cranwinkle in "Bobby Driver."

Bosco visits his mother as often as he can, including during Thanksgiving. Lillian is never grateful for these visits, constantly complaining that Bosco's brother Gary never visits and refusing to participate in activities with the other residents, preferring to stay in her room ("Stuck in the Kitchen with You"). While Bosco is shown to be annoyed by his mother easily, he still cares about her and would help her out whenever she needs help.

Love Interests[]

His Ex-Wife[]

They were once married, but after their divorce, Bosco threw his wedding ring in a ravine ("My Fuzzy Valentine"). He later mentions his ex-wife again in "World Wharf II: The Wharfening (or How Bob Saves/Destroys the Town - Part II)" when trying to solve the mysterious texts Bob has sent. He mentions drunk texting her 87 times the previous night.

The Belchers[]

I shopped by myself, Lin. Well, Sergeant Bosco helped. We drank champagne.

Bosco's interactions with the Belchers were initially rocky. They first encounter each other in "Bob Day Afternoon," when the officer and his associates use Bob's Burgers as a stakeout of a robbery at First Oceanside Savings Bank. The family does numerous things that make his job more grueling, like how Linda Belcher and her kids don't let her husband deliver burgers to the bank during a hostage negotiation or how Louise Belcher doesn't let Bosco use the phone to speak with Mickey, the robber. Bosco even threatens to punch Tina Belcher when she refuses to hand the money Mickey delivers to her for evidence. Sergeant Bosco continues to visit the Belcher restaurant in future episodes, mainly for work-related reasons. But after the shared tense experience with the bank robbery incident, Bosco stopped coming with any extra officers and only visited alone, like in "My Fuzzy Valentine." In the mentioned episode, Bosco came to Bob's Burgers amid his pursuit of a (different) robber, and during his intermission, he joined Linda's speed dating game, bantering and teasing her as an old friend would (he did almost arrest her at the end, however).

Bosco's pants-shopping date with Bob. ("Legends of the Mall")

The first time Bosco meets any member of the Belcher family outside of work is in "Legends of the Mall," when he meets Bob Belcher trying on pants by himself at the mall, just like how he was. Since Linda was busy, Bob was alone and hopelessly trying to find good pants by himself, so the officer decided they should help each other with their pants shopping. Despite this being their first unprofessional encounter, Bosco would fool around with Bob as they went to various pants stores at the mall, like drinking champagne together (at a pants store that served champagne) or caressing each other with trousers. At the end of their date, they end up buying matching pants (although they both realize how distasteful the pairs are after Bob's family sees them).

S8e6 The Bleakening Part 1 Tina Gene Louise Bosco

Bosco flicking water at Tina, Gene, and Louise. ("The Bleakening")

Unlike Bosco's relationship with Bob and Linda, his interactions with Tina, Gene, and Louise Belcher remained sour long after "Bob Day Afternoon." In "The Bleakening," he flicked water at them after they came to the police station and told him who might be behind the serial robbery case he's working on (to be fair, their culprit was a fictional monster), and in "Boywatch," he blatantly told Bob and Linda their children was awful after Gene and Louise tried finding his cyber hacker (which is reasonable since Gene and Louise just wanted to mess with Bosco's investigation). He believes everything they say or do to be unhelpful. However, in The Bob's Burgers Movie, Louise tips him off by informing him of the whereabouts of Grover Fischoeder, the murderer of Cotton Candy Dan, before any other officer gets the information. When he listens to the youngest Belcher's advice and follows her lead, he ends up being the first responder to Grover's arrest.

Enemies[]

Mickey[]

During their time interacting during the bank robbery Mickey would later be arrested for, Bosco was the person who managed to antagonize Mickey unlike most everyone else, among other things daring Mickey to shoot a hostage as a bluff, ordering him to be shot during a food exchange (causing Bob to inadvertently become a hostage), and in general acting hostile but unhelpful.
