"Presto Tina-o" is the tenth episode in Season 4, being the fifty-fifth episode overall.

Synopsis[]

Tina becomes a magician's assistant in order to get closer to Jimmy Jr., while Bob becomes the victim of a magician's "curse."

Plot[]

School is over for the day, and Tina, Gene, and Louise see a Festival of Magic flyer on a telephone pole as they're heading home. Jimmy Jr. and Zeke catch up to them, and Tina greets them. Louise notices that Jimmy Jr. is wearing a cloak. Jimmy Jr. tells the Belchers he's competing in the Young Magicians Competition. Tina points out she thought he was more into dancing than doing magic, and Jimmy Jr. tells her that doing magic gives him more opportunities to dance. He demonstrates by dancing and then pulling out a bouquet from his wand. Tina thinks the flowers are for her, so she reaches for them, but then Jimmy Jr. retracts them and stores his baton. Tina suggests that she should come to the competition and support him. Jimmy Jr. doesn't care and walks away with Zeke.

The Belcher kids are back at the restaurant as Bob hangs up a poster that says the restaurant will discount all bills of magicians by half. Louise tries to take down the sign, but Bob tells her. He tells his family how much he loves magic, and as he does that, a magician looks at Bob's poster and enters Bob's Burgers. The man introduces himself as Mars Sazerac. Linda tells Sazerac to prove that he's a magician, and he performs a trick. Sazerac pulls out a deck of 52 cards, and Linda volunteers as his assistant. Tina remembers that all magicians have assistants, and she daydreams about assisting Jimmy Jr. as he kisses her. Bob also volunteers, and he picks a card. While Bob is choosing one, Sazerac asks Linda to get the restaurant's hugest knife, though Linda already had it, which she pulled out of her pocket. Bob asks Linda why she had it, and Linda tells him that she and Gene were playing Pirates. Bob decides on a card, showing it to everyone but Sazerac. Bob then puts the card back, and Sazerac puts the cards on the counter, which she chops in half. Sazerac grabs the only card intact and shows it to the Belchers, claiming that it's the card Bob picked. However, it isn't, and they are unimpressed. Sazerac then grabs Bob's wallet he secretly stole, and the magician gets Bob to open it, which has the actual card Bob chose. Louise then gets the idea to magically steal things like how Sazerac did.

It's the next day, and they're back at school. Zeke is watching Jimmy Jr. open his locker, and as he does, they see Tina smushed inside it. Tammy walks past and witnesses this, calling Tina a "locker stalker." Tina stumbles out of the locker and suggests that Jimmy Jr. freeing Tina is comparable to a magician freeing their assistant. Jimmy Jr. asks Tina how she knew his locker combination, and Tina reveals it took about a thousand tries. Jimmy Jr. unties the cloak he wore yesterday, and Tina grabs it to put it in his locker. Tina suggests she would be a great assistant for Jimmy Jr.'s magic act, and Jimmy Jr. permits her to, telling her that he practices after school. Tina cheers as they disappear from the shot, though they heard it, so Tina pretends she is doing something else and returns back inside Jimmy Jr.'s locker.

Jimmy Jr. is practicing for his act with Tina in the music rehearsal room. He has loud music playing from his stereo as he dances and throws confetti around Tina in their magician box. Tina suggests she should face the 'audience' since her box is towards the back of the room, and Jimmy Jr. begrudgingly rotates it. He resumes dancing and throwing confetti, and Tina keeps reminding Jimmy Jr. that there's more to the performance. Jimmy Jr. finishes the act by sticking saws into the box, pulling the middle segment away, and pretending to have cut Tina in three parts. Jimmy Jr. then pauses the music as Tina keeps speaking, and Tina tells him he should be doing less dancing. Jimmy Jr. gets irritated at Tina, but Zeke barges in and announces that people spilled a crate of yogurt in the cafeteria, and they both go there and abandon Tina inside the box.

Gene and Louise are determining how to train their magical pickpocketing. They decide Andy and Ollie will be their first victims after Louise sees a candy bar poking from Andy's pocket. Gene distracts them as Louise creeps behind them to take the candy bar. As she's fiddling with his pocket, Ollie receives a telepathic warning and yells that someone's stealing Andy's candy. Louise stops trying.

Back at Bob's Burgers, Sazerac is still here, and Bob is starting to get a little testy. Sazerac brought his magician friends, and they're all loitering without purchasing anything after their plate of fries three hours ago. Bob walks up to Sazerac's table and asks what else he and his friends want, and he orders Bob to get napkins. As Bob turns his back to Sazerac, Sazerac pulls out Bob's wallet again, along with his keys and gas pills.

Tina, Gene, and Louise go to Wands, Wands, Wands, and she asks Horace if the store has a magician's assistant costume. He shows them an outfit and the kids purchase it. Horace then shows other things that the magic store has, and Tina buys the magic rope Horace demonstrated. Tina mutters that the only thing she left in her plan is to get chemistry between her and Jimmy Jr., but Horace warns Tina that she shouldn't mix magic with romance.

Now, there are more magicians at the restaurants, and they're occupying all the seats. They aren't ordering anything, and Bob warns Sazerac and the other magicians. Sazerac tries to be amusing by pulling out a big phony dollar bill for his receipt, but it backfires. Bob tells Sazerac that, thanks to him, he doesn't love magic anymore. He then withdraws the magician's discount and orders the magicians to pay. Sazerac pulls out uneaten fries from his mouth, but Bob is still unimpressed. Bob then bans the magicians despite Linda's warnings. The magicians leave the building, and Sazerac tells Bob he's now in the Enemies of Magic book, which magically cursed Bob.

Tina returns to the music rehearsal room and sees Jimmy Jr. dancing for his magic act as Zeke watches. Tina hands Jimmy Jr. the magic rope she bought, but he uses it as a dancing lasso. Tina keeps telling Jimmy Jr. that he isn't using it right and needs the scissors in Tina's hand to do the trick, but he takes them from Tina's hand and starts dancing with them as well. Tina tries to stop Jimmy Jr. so he can listen to her, and the music pauses as Jimmy Jr. gets irritated at Tina again. Jimmy Jr. fires Tina as his assistant. Tina vows to join the Young Magicians Competition to show Jimmy Jr. an "actual magic act," though Jimmy Jr. and Zeke mock her.

Tina, Gene, and Louise return to Wands, Wands, Wands. They ask Horace what he has for Tina that'll let her win. Tina buys the straitjacket Horace offers her that she'll use for the competition. Horace also shows Tina a book to help her cheat in the magic competition, though she declines since she wants to play fair.

Bob takes down the poster he made and puts up a "NO SHIRT, NO SHOES, NO MAGICIANS" sign, with "NO MAGICIANS" underlined multiple times. Teddy pulls up a napkin from the dispenser, and a bunch of them fly at his face as he, Bob, and Linda are shocked. Teddy asks Bob for some water, and Bob pours the water, though the cup doesn't get any fuller. Linda and Teddy tell Bob that this is happening because he's in the Enemies of Magic book, and they all run away from Bob.

A music montage proceeds, showing Tina failing to get out of the straitjacket, the effects of Bob's curse in his restaurant, and Louise and Gene practicing their pickpocketing, though also failing.

Tina, Gene, and Louise all walk to the music rehearsal room. They find Jimmy Jr. and Zeke, but they are surprised to see Tammy there as well, inside the magician's box. She announces that she's Jimmy Jr.'s new assistant. After her unpleasant interaction with Tammy, the Belcher kids return to Wands, Wands, Wands, and Tina buys the cheating book Horace showed her.

Tina, Gene, and Louise go to Jimmy Jr.'s locker, and Tina opens it. They intend to staple Jimmy Jr.'s cloak's pockets to sabotage him in the competition. When Louise notices Jimmy Jr. and Zeke coming around the corner, the Belcher kids commit their act hastily. Tina doesn't staple the cloak. However, she did weld her clothing with Gene's and Louise's. Jimmy Jr. and Zeke see this, and the Belcher kids walk away while pretending that Tina didn't staple them together.

It's the night of the competition, and Tina, Gene, and Louise are still in the restaurant. They're looking through their cheat book to find other ways to sabotage Jimmy Jr. Linda comes from the house and gets Tina's straitjacket for her, and Tina takes it as she walks out to go to her room and wear it. Bob suggests staying at the restaurant because he feared Sazerac's curse.

The Belchers go to the Wharf Arts Center, where the Young Magicians Competition is. Bob notices a sign and realizes that Sazerac is hosting the competition. Bob decides to "get even" with Sazerac if he can't escape him. Without his family knowing, Bob tries searching for Sazerac's room. Tina goes backstage to prepare for her performance, and Gene and Louise follow to help her sabotage Jimmy Jr.'s. Bob finds Sazerac's dressing room after he sees Sazerac leaving it. Bob licks the cold cuts the Center gave to Sazerac as revenge, but Bob also notices the Enemies of Magic book on the table. He rips his name from his book and replaces it with a slice of salami that he licks again.

Tina hands Gene and Louise a CD with poly-rhythmic synth-jazz music, which Gene exclaims no one can dance to. They plan to replace Jimmy Jr.'s CD track with this, so he embarrasses himself. The Belcher kids hand the CD to a backstage person, claiming they are working with Jimmy Jr.

Bob goes to the auditorium and sits by Linda, unable to control his laughter from licking Sazerac's sliced meats. He tells Linda what he did, and Linda tells Bob that he smells like smoked salami.

Sazerac comes to the stage and introduces the competition and its performers, the first being Jimmy Jr. and Tammy as his assistant. Jimmy Jr. is dumbfounded when Tina's CD starts playing instead of his music. He tries to dance as Tammy enters the magician's box but fails. Tina looks at Jimmy Jr. and feels guilty. Tina runs to Jimmy Jr. on the stage wearing her straitjacket, trying to help him. Tina apologizes for sabotaging him, and Jimmy Jr. apologizes for being sensitive about his dancing. When Tammy starts speaking up, Tina kicks Tammy's box, and Tammy rolls away and crashes. Tina tells Jimmy Jr. to be her assistant by continuing his attempt at dancing while she performs the magic act by escaping the straitjacket. Louise notices Sazerac backstage and goes to him. As far as she was concerned, Louise pickpocketed the Enemies of Magic book from Sazerac without his knowledge. Tina falls, but she manages to escape and complete her magic act.

After other competitors perform, Sazerac announces the winners. Peter Pescadero wins the $ 5,000 prize, but Tina and Jimmy Jr. receive an Honorable Mention Award for Onstage Chemistry. They win a $50 gift certificate for Wands, Wands, Wands. Tina tries to kiss Jimmy Jr., but he dances away.

With the Belchers backstage, they congratulate or comfort Tina. Louise announces that she succeeded her first pickpocket with the Enemies of Magic book from Sazerac. Bob flips to the page where he put the licked salami, but he also sees instructions in the book: "Look on the back of the page you tore out." Bob takes the crumpled-up page from his book, and Sazerac writes that he knew Bob and Louise's plan would happen. Sazerac also adds that he farted on the meats Bob licked.
