Trivia

  • The title and script cover are a reference to the 2015 movie Ex Machina.
  • The table read for this episode took place on September 18, 2015.
  • This episode was reportedly being aired on Jack TV around November 2016 in the Philippines ahead of the first United States and Canada broadcast on January 8, 2017.[1][2] Likely because the episode was probably completed and handed over to Fox in the summer in the hope that it would air before Christmas which did not happen due to the show often being pre-empted for football games. Backed up by the fact that a fully animated preview clip from the episode was screened during the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con International 2016.[3] Also, the copyright year is listed as 2016 on the end credits. This makes it the first episode of the show to originally air in the United States and Canada in a different year to the one listed on the end credits.
  • The plot of this episode is similar to that of the South Park episode "A Nightmare on Face Time", the Modern Family episode "American Skyper", and the Community episode "Laws of Robotics & Party Rights" where telepresence robots feature.
  • When Tina is guiding the robot down the hallway for the first time, Kristen Schaal provides the laugh of the girl that laughs at her.
  • The song Mr. Branca is listening to is "Rock the Casbah" by The Clash.
  • Yuli, the security guard who appeared in "Burgerboss" and "Adventures in Chinchilla-Sitting" appears again in this episode and his name is spoken for the first time. Despite this, the credits list him as 'night security guard'.
  • This is the first episode since "Bad Tina" to reference Jimmy Pesto's supposed ex-wife/mother of his children. Jimmy, Jr. mentions that she has a new friend called Allen who's "okay."
  • The magazine Linda is reading in bed is the same magazine she is seen reading in the living room in "Li'l Hard Dad" when Tina gets frustrated about not reading The Call of the Wild.
  • Jimmy, Jr. comments that Tina comes down the stairs "like The Exorcist", referring to the scene in the movie where Father Karras falls to his death down a set of steps. This episode originally aired four days before the passing of William Peter Blatty, the writer of the novel which the movie was based on.[4]
  • The third Burger of the Day in this episode, which isn't fully visible, appears to be the "If You've Got It, Croissant It Burger," previously seen in "The Itty Bitty Ditty Committee."
  • A total of 3.58 million households watched this episode, making it the highest rated episode in over two years and the highest in Season 7. [5]
